When school ends, the need for a healthy
Winchester Got Lunch (WGL), located in Winchester, Massachusetts, is a 501c3 non-profit volunteer organization. The mission of Winchester Got Lunch is to provide healthy lunches during the summer to Winchester students who rely on subsidized lunches during the school year.
A federally subsidized school year lunch program provides nutritional lunches to more than 250 Winchester students who qualify for assistance. In the summer, these children can lose access to these healthy meals. Winchester Got Lunch extends the nutritional support through the summer by providing a weekly bag of free lunch foods to families with children who request and qualify assistance.
Community Food Drive a Success!
Throughout the month of May there were donation containers in our schools, at Town Hall and at Winchester Hospital. This was a community-wide effort to collect non-perishables for the summer food program. This successful collection yielded just about 2000 food items!!! A big thank you to Carole Kitchens who provided staff and a truck to pick up all this food and to the high schoolers who helped.
